Upgrade costs are insane after upgrading to Captains Edition

Postby Habalabam » Thu May 14, 2015 11:03 am

Hi.

After a pretty long pause, I dusted off of FTL to try out the Captains edition.

I have a 64 bit windows. However, the endless loot mod will not let me start the game.

Also, something has happened to the pricing.
For instance, the default ship starts with two bars of shield system, resulting in a single shield barrier.
In order to purchase system upgrades, the next bars costs 60, 120, 200, 360, 560, 800
Meaning that I will have to dish out 2100 scrap in order to fully upgrade my shields.
Engine upgrades, beyond the starting two bars, are 45, 120, 200, 360, 560, 960

Piloting, beyond the first bar, is 160, 200, 450.
Needless to say, this results in me coming to the middle sectors with very little upgrades.

As mentioned, another symptom is that I am unable to start the game with the endless loot mod. This leads me to suspect that I'm not really running 64 bit.
Is there any way I can look further into that?

I purchased the game through steam. I am a bit hesitant about uninstalling/installing the game because I worry about losing my ships. I have unlocked all.

Looks like you've got CE Infinite. The high prices are intentional so you don't max out everything in Sector 1-2. As for Endless Loot, that thing never works unless you want to invest in some third party software.

You really should consult the CE thread for details.

If you want to remove all mods from the game, you just load Slipstream without any mods selected. It should revert you back to your previous game. If not, verify the game cache integrity on Steam (right click, Properties, select the Local Files tab). You won't lose your ships, it'll just revert the game to the proper data and resource files.

You're absolutely right. I didn't think it worked since I was still being chased. Maybe I misunderstood the mod because I thought it would be an open world type of game.

I reverted the mods and now only run with captains edition resource pack and "proper". Now the prices are correct. Thank you!

You seem of the pragmatic type. Do you have any hot tips on mods, preferably through the slipstream mod manager?

Make sure to put them in the right order. Things that add a lot to the game (like Captain's Edition) go first and ship mods go last once everything else has been put in.

Also, be prepared for some real shonky mods. Some people like to have overpowered ships right off the bat. While it's fun to blast through the galaxy with 4 shield-piercing Glaive Beams and full systems maxed out, it's only good once before you get bored.

There's a list in the Modding section of the forum if you want to try something out. If I gave any specifics, I'd end up advertising my mods (which are mostly Zoltan ships with twists on how the Zoltan operate, or they're automated ships with a twist... or both!)

I don't think Steam lets you run the wrong version of FTL (x32 vs. x64). It automatically downloads the correct one.

EDIT: Also, Steam should save your progress (saved game, ships, etc.) to the cloud after each game. Uninstalling and reinstalling FTL should be fine.
