First post - after discovering FTL a few days ago I gave it a try and was hooked by the innovative gameplay and difficulty. I've played some roguelikes before (I legitimately ascended in Nethack) - but FTL is amazing.
According to Steam's hours counter it took me 64 hours of play to finally get my first normal win. Best Christmas break ever!
For anyone that's wondering it was with a Zoltan Type A - using the starter hull beam, burst laser 2 and an ion bomb. No stealth, fully upgraded shields and engines and reactor, two mantis boarders. I got pretty lucky with augments - Zoltan Shield, acquired Engi racial augment, and automatic reloader.
I was basically able to tank all damage from the last boss and ended up taking about 3 points of hull damage the whole fight.
I'm sure I'll go for many more play throughs to unlock ships. Here's hoping for a big paid expansion soon!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game so much. Winning in the Adjudicator is not quite as easy as the Kestrel, so congratz for that. Have fun unlocking ships, they're all quite different and worth playing.
