Personal Designation: Suicide Mission

Postby Mister Sammy » Thu Dec 13, 2012 11:51 pm

It was all over. The last forward base of the Federation, well hidden as it was, was taken out by the Rebel Fleet. One lone Federation soldier, however, commandeered a dusty experimental ship. The purpose of this vessel was to see if the Federation could spread their already dwindling manpower even thinner by replacing the crew of their ships, save for the ever-important pilot.

Captain's Log, Entry 1. Stardate irrelevant.

The Federation courier fleet was raided and destroyed in its hangar. I am highly suspecting enemy espionage; no actual intelligence or evidence of such. However, it matters not. The Federation Intelligence must be delivered.

...

Chances of success: Estimated 15%.

Personal feelings are irrelevant. The mission is more important. My existence, weighed against the existence of all Federation citizens, is meaningless. I must attempt, at least.

Nomenclature of conveyance: Vortex.

...

Though Engi do not perceive "luck", however, I believe, that if I had any human companions left, they would be 'wishing' me this superstition anyways. Wishing is also alien. Why wish, when you can do? Why linger on what you cannot do or achieve? It simply does not compute.

Companions would be beneficial. However, I prefer the solitude. It is easier to calculate, to think. FTL Drive is still charging. First jump imminent. (I'll continue this story when I actually start the Vortex run. Right now...I'm doing YET ANOTHER Basilisk run. XD)

Distress signal detected. I perceived myself as well-equipped to deal with any issue. So I jumped.

"Distress beacon received. Arriving to render assistance."

I pulled my ship up and put the anti-personnel to the task. Short work made of hostile arachnids, all exterminated. Meager rewards, but honest gratitude. Any resource increases chances of success, however. I must take what I can get.

Entry 2
The passage of time is only just that. Time. One might wonder why I am more verbose in my writings than an Engi would normally be- a habit, forced. My commanding officers were human. Found it easier to read reports if they were written "properly". Understanding of humans is not my strong point, but, I adapted.

In any case, rendered assistance to two more settlements. One, under imminent Rebel attack. Other, menaced by pirates. Piracy is as piracy was, and will always be. First settlement under attack does not sit well. They reported that the rebels had demanded of them free service simply due to conditions of victory. Unable to compute. Do the rebel fleet really think they will remain in power long if they create more grievances than the Federation? Matters not, FTL drive charged. Initiating jump through long-range beacon. Signing off.

Entry 3
Jumped into a civilian sector. I had previously sold my anti-personnel for a sensor network. The other choice was a nebula. Have picked up two crew members. Sold my system repair drones and the reactor augment to hire them. First is a fellow Engi, designation 'Pomeroy'. Second, human. Designation 'GMFaux.' An odd name for a human, most likely an alias or psuedonym. But then, I am an Engi with the nomenclature of 'Alex'. Human seemed more eager to be hired than to receive the scrap for which he joined. Hiding something. Probably a fugitive from the rebels.

Entry 4
Final entry. Encountered pirates. Rogue Engi on ship, could not keep any damage to shields. Forced to jump away damaged... engines are charging as quickly as possible, but chances of escape are slim. Enemy is automated, heavily armed, well-defended.
