The following is all that was found in the The Ranger's wreckage, the historical ship that was supposedly the Federation's last hope.
CAPTAIN'S LOG. Location: Engi Homeworlds, Sector 5: Beacon 1.
Never trust an Engi, as the saying goes.
My first mate always says that whenever we encounter an Engi... I usually don't believe him. He says he had "bad times" with the Engi when he was a child. Well anyway, it seems the beacon we landed on was placed in the middle of a nebula. The long-ranged scanner picked up several other Nebulas we'd have to pass through before we got into clear space, and thankfully they all seem to be clear of Ion-Storms.
The crew is nervous, the ship continues to sway back and forth, as if a storm is about to begin. Luckily the FTL drives are done charging so we can jump out.
Sector 5: Beacon 2.
I hate the dark... Always gives me a bad feeling. On my homeworld there were stories of creatures that lived in the dark places of the universe, carnivorous, and seemingly made of shadow. No one had ever seen them, but they knew there was something there when their friends started to disappear... One by one.
The crew seems to have spotted a ship diving deeper into the Nebula, seemingly Federation in structure. Thanks to our long-ranged scanners we were able to find the ship. We are going to check it out.
After boarding the ship we saw a number of dead bodies lining the walls. Lock pointed out that the weapons used to kill these men were of Engi design. Whats going on here? The Engi usually don't pick fights with the Federation.
After exploring for a while, we found a lone survivor. He was a Mantis, and was badly wounded to. We brought him aboard and put him down on the med-bay. After the med-bay was done doing its job, he thanked us, and asked us what we were doing out in the middle of the Nebula. We told him of our mission, and he offered to join our crew. We gladly accepted the generous offer. I returned to the bridge after stationing our new Mantis friend "Butters" to the engines room, which he claims was his original station on the previous ship. I plotted our course to a nearby shop to refuel and see what they had.
Sector 5: Beacon 3.
Finally, out of the darkness of the Nebula, into a bright shop. With a Nebula right outside... Atleast this is the last one. I can't wait to see the stars again. The shop is owned by Engi. Strike is pretty nervous... Keeps checking his pockets to see if anythings been stolen. Lock found a new toy, too, she sure does love weapons... This Grade 2 Burst Laser will come in handy.
We've hired a repair team to patch up The Ranger... As soon as they are done we can jump out of this damned Nebula, it may slow down the fleet, but I'd rather make tracts than sit here like ducks.

I hate these Engi... Always sneaking about. Never trusted the cybernetic bastards.
The captain is thinking about hiring one of their Mercenaries before we leave, for fast repairs on the go. I'll try to persuade him out of it...
