Death on Last Jump Before Boss

I was extremely well equipped, using the mantis type B, and I Had scrap to burn after upgrading like everything. I dd the stupid quest to get rock plating, but on the way to it I went in an asteroid field and it severly brought down my health from full to 75%. So then i get to the rock plating quest and I survive it but then i can't get the plating because the rebel fleet is right behind me. I jump to the exit and i'm on fire with half my ship destroyed then the rebels are there and attack me and I put up a good fight. But near the end of the fight I have 3 bars left on my hull and I put my cloak up so I have 85% dodge and they fire a pegasus missle and it goes right through my cloak and kills me :I

That's the last jump before sector 8 it sounds like, not the last jump before the boss. You normally have to go through a few encounters in the last sector before confronting the boss, and the sector 8 enemies can be brutal.
