Journey of The HexTech

[Captain's Log 22.9.3250 1800 hours]

I was instructed to report at the Admiral's office by a engineer working on my cruiser, a standard Engi Cruiser-class, many say it looks like a pile of junk glued together, and I won't lie, it does, but i've heard incredible stories of how great captains have won against impossible odds with this ship, I wished to be one of them before, but with this rebellion...everything changed, I fear for myself, and the guilt I will feel if I can't keep my crew alive.

The Admiral was waiting for me impatiently when I arrived, "Captain Adrian" he said it in such a firm tone, it is engraved in my head, "Sir?" "No time for formalities, listen and do it closely, we have acquired special information of the rebel flagship, its weaknesses, and a possible super-weapon, as our only captain without a mission here, I entrust the mission of delivering this to the Federation fleet, some sectors away, there is no time to supply your ship with the best equipment, the rebels will be here soon, so make do with what you get until you deliver the message, once there, the commander will give you new orders, now go!" As I started to leave, he called out to me, "Oh, by the way, your crew will be 2 Engi volunteers, but they are a bit....peculiar.

I walked back to the hangar, I finally saw the name painted on the side of my ship, The HexTech, what a peculiar name, one of the engineers approached me. "Captain, I wanted to let you know what we have given to your ship, do you have the time?" I nodded, "Thank you, we have supplied you with 16 fuel, and 15 drone parts, no missiles, but don't worry, you won't be needing those as of now, we've installed an Ion Blast MK. II, and a Anti-Ship Drone MK. I, drone controls are already installed." I asked if there was anything else I needed to know, he said the last of the supplies were being brought on-board and my crew was waiting for me at the med-bay, which is connected to the bridge.

As I walked up the ramp, a supplier handed me a map of the ship layout "Sensors are being installed by engineers right now, so use this to familiarize yourself with the ship lay out for now. The layout was very solid, enough airlocks to control fires and enough room for other systems. as I walked to the med-bay I wondered what the Admiral meant by my crew being "peculiar", when I entered the med-bay, I saw two small, TINY Engis talking to each other, they barely passed my knees, I greeted them they asked me to ignore their stature, they were more than capable of what they do, as if they read my mind. One introduced himself as Ziggs, and claimed to be a weapons expert, the other was Heimerdinger, but he asked me to call him Heimy, he said he knew a lot about drones and repairs, but practiced the use of shields to compliment the ship. someone poked their head trough the med-bay door, "The ship is ready, all systems online, you are good to go!" At this I told the Engis to man their stations, as they walked through opposite doors, I entered the bridge, sat down on the chair and called trough the intercoms "All personnel, report", both responded affirmatively, "Good, commencing jump in three...two...one, I hit the button and everything blurred, we were off, and only fate new what awaited for us.

Am I the only one who noticed?
Zoltan: Would you like to participate in some tests?

Me: Uh? No thank you. I'll be leaving now.

[Captain's Log 23.9.3250 1600 hours]

As the jump ended, we were greeted with a very bad sight, we had jumped dangerously close to a sun, and a rebel Auto-Scout was waiting for us. “ Ziggs, ion blast those weapons, now!” To our luck, it had no shields, I activated the drone, as I watched it be launched into space, and hum into life, I wondered what it could possibly do, instantly, it shot at the scout, going clean trough the hull and into its central room, I heard a small *pew* and saw an ion ball fly across space, it missed its target, and the same scout shot out an ion ball, as well as a missile, our shields absorbed the ion ball, and were disabled, the missile hit on an empty room between the sensors and the med-bay, as I turned to look at the scout, I saw the drone blow out its engines, that filled me with joy, our next ion shot cant miss. As the ion ball hit its mark, the weapons room, the scout’s ion blaster retracted inside it, and the drone blew out its left wing, sending that, as well as its engines, into space, to my horror, as the energy in the scout started draining, it sent out a missile, I saw it fly right over my head, and I heard a large explosion, followed by nervous chatter in the intercom “Status report!” Ziggs responded “My room was hit, power here is down, I can get it fixed, but I cant say my body is doing great” “Heimy, take some power out of the engine, get the med-bay online and let the augmentation do its job” “Yes sir, righ-“ then there was static, a big warning signal lit on my control panel, a solar flare, I had completely forgotten about the sun, and the FTL is far from charged. Luckily, only an airlock room lit on fire, so I opened those airlocks, the fires instantly died. Another warning signal, this time I was ready, so was the FTL drive. I hit the jump button and selected a completely random destination, we felt the heat of the flare before we jumped to the next beacon.

We arrived to a some pirates attacking a civilian ship, we rushed to aid them, the pirates locked on to us, but the ion blast went out, and took out their shields, as their weapons exploded, both their basic lasers fired, one hit our shields, the other our weapons room, poor Ziggs, he immediately called trough the intercom saying he was ok, and that the Ion Blaster was down for a bit, moments later, he said ready, and fired out an ion blast, it was intercepted by one of the lasers fired by the pirate ship, causing a small explosion, and ripping the weapon of their ship, and then our drone hit their oxygen, panicked chatter came form the pirate ship, as some rushed to fixed it, and our drone mercilessly shot again, blowing one of their crew straight out into space, a mantis, typical pirate, the drone sent out one more laser, and the ship engines failed, and blew, proceeded by their bridge, and then the ship, we contacted the civilian ship, they offered to install a weapon and some scrap, and we gladly accepted, and salvaged the remains of the pirate ship, I asked Heimy if he could get us better shields, he said yes, but he would have to drain some energy from the engines, I told him to go ahead, and the transparent barrier became more visible, and I smiled.

In the next beacon, we found some pirates attacking a civilian transport, they quickly tried to bribe us, we refused and opened fire, after the anti-ship drone was sent to space, humming to life, the ion blaster hit their shields, and so after a few volleys they tried to bribe us again, this time with a better offer, we still refused, before one ion blast managed to disable their weapons completely, they sent out a missile, it hit the bridge, I did not get any serious injuries, it charred my arm a bit, and the only thing it did was cause the system to malfunction, eventually the drone destroyed the pirate ship, we didn’t get as much as they had offered, but we had saved the civilians, or so I thought, a hull breach had deprived the crew of oxygen, we salvaged what we could, and left as soon as the Med-bot dispersal healed me, I cannot stop feeling responsible for the deaths of the civilians. At this I decided it was time to rest, so I announced trough the intercom that we will continue tomorrow, they have the rest of the day of.
