A little gun shy on trying mods

Postby spongebobsaget » Sun Nov 10, 2013 7:55 pm

Love me some FTL, and some of these mods look like a lot of fun!

I am, by nature, a bit conservative when it comes to screwing with my computer or programs. If it works, I want it to keep working. I don't like problem solving / troubleshooting for the sake of tinkering.

Hokay, disclaimers aside..

How hard is it to try out a mod, and if you don't like it, remove it, without screwing up the base game?

In particular, I like the look of that Ambush ship mod!

Help a noob out! :D

Extremely easy. All you need is a copy of unmodded FTL, the .ftl file of the mod in question, and Slipstream Mod Manager.

Edit: Besides, it's really not that difficult to make a backup copy of something. My younger brother currently has over 3 separate versions of Star Trek Legacy installed on his computer.

Cool, thanks. I will probably give it a shot after I finish my fiction/blog project. Don't want to chance blowing my save point and hosing all this work right in the middle, lol.

Fun idea for a blog, it will be quite long when you are done (unless the story is cut short by tragedy)

Its also nice to hear that you are interested in my ship, with slipstream its really easy to manage the mods with it so give it a wirl when you are done with your blog playthrough

It will be the next blog-playthrough ship! Should be fun, especially as a first run through with no other practical experience in it.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG?

And shhhh don't tell anyone, but I've already got rough-drafts of logs totaling about 11,000 words, lol.

I just need to make sure to polish it up and edit for clarity before I publish each one. :geek:

If I make it to the Flagship, it's probably going to wind up around 30,000 words, is my guess.

I don't personally read FTL fiction, but it's a cool idea, nonetheless :)

Also, for your signature, you can do:

Oh hey, thanks!

I tried to do that very thing but failed miserably, lol

Cheers!

Oh, and just as a point of clarification, I'm not really making up the story, it's an actual play through being put into text and fluffed just slightly to make it easier to read. Everything that happens in the "story" is pretty much 100% how it went down in the game.

Think of it as the radio broadcast of your favorite sport... a little play by play and some color thrown in :D

That's crazy, I can see you are getting them up on the blog at a steady rate to.

Finished up, just under 29,000 words

Now, I gotta figure out this whole mod thing and give it a go.
